What does Therapeutic Touch mean?

Therapeutic Touch (TT) is a contemporary healing modality drawn from ancient practices and developed in 1972 by Dolores Krieger, PhD, RN and Dora Kunz. The practice is based on the assumption that human beings are complex fields of energy, and that the ability to enhance healing in another is a natural human potential.

Therapeutic Touch is a scientifically based process and is used to balance and promote the flow of human energy. It is taught in colleges and hospitals around the world and has a substantial base of formal and clinical research.

Therapeutic Touch research shows that five things happen consistently:

1. Profound Relaxation response within 2-4 minutes.

2. Reduction in anxiety.

3. Normalizing of Immune function.

4. Accelerated wound healing and bone growth.

5. Reduction in the perception of pain.

It can be learned by anyone with a sincere interest and motivation towards helping others. One must have compassion, the willingness to learn the process and do the “inner work” that is essential. Therapeutic Touch as a method of healing is used by both professionals in the health field and laymen in the community.
